Established in 1962 by prince Karim Aga Khan and a group of international investors, Costa Smeralda is one of the most exclusive tourist destinations in the world.
Covering an area of 3000 hectares between the municipalities of Arzachena and Olbia, 96% of its area is a green zone.
In this immense green lung there are the most beautiful beaches of Sardinia: Capriccioli, Grande Pevero, Spiaggia del Principe, Liscia Ruja, La Celvia, Romazzino, Cala Petra Ruja.
There are many buildings of high architectural and historical value.
Governed by Consorzio Costa Smeralda, urban development has been turned on and is still controlled by the Committee of Architecture, a highly qualified organisation.
The most important architects of the Twentieth Century were part of Committee of Architecture, such as Jacques Couëlle, Michele Busiri Vici e Luigi Vietti. Couëlle is the creator of the iconic hotel Cala di Volpe which is inspired by the best Mediterranean tradition. Burisi Vici is the author of the hotel Romazzino and the church Stella Maris, two examples of Mediterranean architecture with references, in shapes and white colour, to Stazzi of Gallura.
Vietti is the author of hotel Pitrizza, which takes inspiration to “Nuraghi”. He is also the author of Porto Cervo, the heart of Costa Smeralda.
Within the 3000 hectares of Costa Smeralda, whose name is a register trademark, there are over 700 villas, designed by the best architects of the world. The overwhelming majority of the villas are perfectly integrated into the Mediterranean scrub.
According to the study centre of the Consorzio Costa Smeralda, between 2007 and 2018 the value of the Costa Smeralda villas increased by 19,4% and that of the apartments by 20,3%, confirming the importance of real estate in the area.
